I had same issue today, i think it could be related to last update, as i noticed sync failure errors twice today with one new entry into vault and one edit.
However above advice to logout and login seems to fixed the problem
current desktop version (on win10):
Version 2023.12.0
Shell 25.9.1
Renderer 114.0.5735.289
Node 18.15.0
Architecture x64

I also experienced this, on the firefox extension, version 2023.12.0.

Logging in and out was successful, but I would not have known that my vault wasn't syncing unless I'd gone to a site I'd set up on another machine and the login was missing.

This also happened to me with the Chrome extension when it was upgraded to version 2023.12.0. Syncing would not be done automatically and trying to trigger it manually resulted in the same error.

Although logging out and then logging back in worked, I would say this issue should not be closed because clearly there was a problem during the upgrade process.

Same here, Firefox 120, Bitwarden 2023.12.0.
There was no indication that Bitwarden was not syncing. No error messages, nothing, until I went to the settings to sync manually when I noticed that a password that should be there was missing. Only then I got the "syncing failed" popup visible in the screenshot in the original report (#7170 (comment)).

Log out and then logging back in made Bitwarden sync and also allowed manual sync to succeed again.
