for example, tagging v1.1.1 with v1 and v1.1 too, then using a more general tag in the template

I was reading this: https://devopsjournal.io/blog/2022/10/19/How-GitHub-Actions-versioning-works

Apparently this is not possible to GH release UI and requires manual tagging with git, so it's harder and less automatic than I thought... Not closing the issue yet, just not doing it either.

This could be automated if releases are automated with release-please: https://github.com/google-github-actions/release-please-action?tab=readme-ov-file#creating-majorminor-tags
