Etcd forces clients to connect to the advertise-client-urls passed when it starts. This is hardcoded to be the external IP address of the node. Since the blueprint is supposed to be a part of a more complex application it makes more sense to connect on the local (subnet) addresses of the nodes instead - the public addresses could be firewalled. Switching to advertising the subnet address by default, but making it configurable so simple etcd deployments talking to the internet are still possible.
