The purpose of our community is to facilitate connections between HfP members, past and present.
The fundamental challenge many of us face is translating our interdiscplinary training in politics and technology into meaningful work and research opportunities.
Some of us may struggle to know exactly what kind of work we're best suited for after graduating from HfP. Others, who know exactly the kind of work they'd like to do, may struggle to identify fruitful opportunities. And still others may be interested in knowing more about working in complex, competitive institutions - working outside their home country, breaking into Silicon Valley, interning at highly-esteemed organizations, or entering academia.
We hope to address these challenges through this community that provides a network of alumni, faculty and students. Seeking guidance and making connections is important to all of us.
By looking at what current alumni are doing, current students are able to more clearly understand what types of jobs are available and accessible to others with their background.
By incorporating current students and faculty, alumni are able to remain connected to the current research and thinking happening at the HfP, gaining inspiration for their own careers from students just starting out in their own.
We seek to create a robust and proactive alumni community that is able to easily create, share, and promote relevant ideas, job posts, and career resources.
As your first interactions with the community, we have curated the following resources for everyone to browse through.
If you have ideas for content you'd like to see created, we encourage you to do just that! You can reach out to a Community Manager to ask for guidance, or can post directly in the group. Crowd-sourced projects and materials are usually low-maintenance, and simply suggesting the idea is usually enough to make it happen. Some examples of community resource projects could be :
- Seminars on personal branding
- Mock interview rounds and interview prep
- Job search best-practices within your home country or industry
All of our materials are crowd-sourced and publicly maintained.
We encourage posts and comments on the following topics :
- ✅ introducing yourself
- ✅ relevant questions posed to the community
- ✅ professional or academic events
- ✅ meet-up or networking requests
- ✅ publications
- ✅ job postings and internship opportunities in
- think tanks
- advocacy groups
- political parties
- academia, and others
So long as you're following the rules, we encourage you to post and share whatever is of interest to you. If you're curious or want to discuss something, odds are someone else does as well. Simply start a conversation or reach out and connect directly with community members!
At this time, all new posts are welcome and need not be authorized by Community Managers.
In order to maintain a community which is inclusive, productive, and appropriate, we have decided on certain ground rules that must be followed.
The most important policy is to always consider, before posting anything, that this is a professional group focused on HfP alumni. The purpose of this group is to amplify best-practices and materials for your post-HfP work and career, and hence the following may not be appropriate for this group:
- ❌ content specifically related to current students (academics, internships etc.)
- ❌ general 'conversation topics' that may be irrelevant to this group
- ❌ irrelevant memes (but relevant ones are highly encouraged!)
We DO NOT welcome, and will remove, other political content. This includes, but is not limited to:
- ❌ Irrelevant political opinions and/or ideological statements
- ❌ Comments which make broad generalizations about a specific country, people, culture, or phenomenon
- ❌ Jobs or opportunities that promote work or beliefs which are objectively hateful or exclusionary
Content which is deemed inappropriate will be moderated by the Community Managers. Moderation may include a message to the author or removal of the content in question. In more serious cases, individuals can also be banned from the group. Although this group was assembled and is managed exclusively by HfP students, HfP Administrators also maintain the right to weigh in on content area and may request removal of anything which seems harmful to the HfP, its goals, and its mission.
Please remember that this is an international community of professional adults. Please act accordingly, and remember that anyone in this group may be your next boss, letter of recommendation, or colleague!
